Tech Savvy 2016

A hands-on day of fun with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for girls in Grades 6 through 9. Parents are invited to attend and participate in special parent activities.
On the campus of Stark State College, 6200 Frank Ave. NW, North Canton, OH
Cost: $5 per student; $5 per parent/guardian. Breakfast and lunch are included with registration, also T-shirts/ Freebies/ Handout materials.

Breakout sessions/ classes include: “It’s a Rocky World Out There,” “Lava, Lava, Lava Lamps,”
“Microscopic Investigation: Who Stole the Coin at the Museum?” “AutoCAD: I Design A Bicycle Like a Girl,” Allometry: Not ‘a Llama Tree,'” “Diggin’ for DNA,” “Creating the Ultimate S’More,” “NASA Design: Science That Is Out of This World,” “Code Girl,” and others. Girls will select three to attend. Instructors include teachers, members of NASA, agents from the FBI, manufacturing engineers and others. Parents’ programming includes sessions on STEM career planning, cybersafety, financing and affordability of education.
Tech Savvy is a daylong science, technology, engineering and math career conference designed to attract girls in sixth through ninth grade to these fields and to inform families about STEM education and careers. A grant from ALCOA Foundation has helped to provide funding for this program.
